PROJECT ''Unicef GIS''
In my role at UNICEF as an assistant in geospatial information management, I had the vital task of creating a series of maps using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software such as QGIS and ArcGIS. My work involved georeferencing the various projects that UNICEF undertakes in Nicaragua, which allowed for a visual representation of the diverse areas and initiatives across the country, with a particular focus on the North Caribbean Coast and South Caribbean Coast.
The objective of this work was to provide a clear and accurate geographical depiction of UNICEF’s efforts, helping stakeholders and partners understand the spatial distribution of our projects. This was particularly important for planning and resource allocation, ensuring that interventions were targeted and effective. By mapping out project locations, we could better identify the needs of specific communities and adapt our strategies accordingly.
Using GIS tools, I meticulously positioned each project on the map, based on precise geographical data. This included not only the physical locations but also key attributes of each project, such as scope, impact, and population served. The maps I produced were used in presentations, reports, and strategic meetings, serving as essential tools for decision-making and communication.
The process of creating these maps also involved continuous updating and refining to reflect new projects or changes in ongoing initiatives. This dynamic aspect of the job required a strong attention to detail and an ability to adapt to evolving project needs and outcomes.
Overall, my work in managing geospatial information at UNICEF not only enhanced the organization's operational efficiency but also increased transparency and engagement with community stakeholders, ensuring that every child in these regions has a better chance to thrive.
